Summer Camps 2008

Some Information Regarding Camp Fees In Response to Concerns That Camp is not Free

The cost of camp for the week is $75 per child.. and siblings receive discounts if income qualifying.
Camp fees break down as follows:

Lunch per week per camper         $25+
Snacks per week per camper        $15
Facility Costs ($300+ per week for rent & utilities)      $15
Consumable supplies (toilet paper, hand soap, etc...)  $1
Program (theme--art, science) supplies & crafts         $10
Liability Insurance           $5
Field Trips (park and pool)       $3
Camp T-shirt (one per summer)        $12

Those are conservative estimates of program costs.  Truth be told, it costs more to provide 40 hours of --not babysitting-- but academic enrichment and recreational opportunities than we could possibly charge... and keep in mind.. all the staff are working as VOLUNTEERS. None of the camp fees pay wages to the folks putting on this quality programming. Youth Activities, Inc. would love nothing more than to offer free programming to area youth.  That will never happen until and unless our local government agencies lend their support to the Youth Center and to our local youth.

Art Camp II - Beyond the Basics

**tons of recreational activities available at this camp!  participation in art activities are optional.

July 7-11
8:30 - 4:30 Daily

Camp Philosophy

Youth today are exposed to craft projects daily - school, church, home, scouts, youth groups, and youth center programs.  Art Camp is not about crafts.  It is about Art- culture, history, Masters,
technique, line-shape-color-texture, emotion, creation, creativity.    We hope that campers will learn to put part of themselves in to their art work and to view the work of others with a sense of appreciation and understanding.

Camp Activities

This is the second year for camp and we assume campers have a knowledge of color, lines, shape- the basics.  We will get more indepth this year with a look at the Masters - trying to replicate the emotion, technique, or style of the great ones.  In addition, we will have a week long project where we will take an object and turn it into many forms of art... we'll sketch it, sculpt it, print it, melt it, change it and so much more!

Nutritional meals and snacks are provided.

Recreational activities, Reading Quest, and games available daily.

Each camper will recieve a camp t-shirt to wear on field trip day.

One day at the park and pool is scheduled.

Lil' Theatre Drama Camp

August 11-15
8:30-4:30 Daily

Camp Philosophy

Lil' Theatre camp is a fun drama camp which takes a look at all aspects of theatre production; writing a play, costumes, financing, directing, and acting.  This camp is not going to turn our local youth in to child stars-- but it may instill self-confidence, an interest in creative writing or performing,  and an appreciation of the theatre.  This camp is for those wishing to be in the play and for those who just want something fun to do at the end of the summer.

Camp Activities

Campers will participate in all aspects of play production.  Each camper will take part in composing a script, finding props, building a set, and we'll even do a small fundraiser to help cover the costs of the set and costumes.

If all goes well, the campers should be ready to perform their work, plus a few skits and fun things for thier families on the last day of camp.

Science Camp II -
 Fizz! Pop! Eww! Ahh!

July 21-25
8:30-4:30 Daily

Camp Philosophy

Kids love doing science experiments!  Our camp gives youth the opportunity for some real hands on learning with tons of fun and exciting experiements.  We don't just read about science from a book!  Campers get much more than vocabulary knowledge; they actually touch, taste, and smell the world of science.  We hope campers gain a love of learning and exploring  that stays with them their whole lives.

Camp Activities

This year camp will do experiments in electicity, forensics, geology, weather, and more.

Daily lessons in ecology are highlighted as we use many recycled materials for projects.

Recreation, crafts, Reading Quest and game activities daily.
