Youth Activities, Inc.
Bringing quality youth programs to Lewis County kids, teens and families.
Youth Center Defined: A youth center is a social and recreational center intended primarily for the use of of youth ages 6-18. A youth center supports opportunities for youth to develop their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities and to experience achievement, leadership, enjoyment, friendship, and recognition. Youth centers offer structured and organized activities as well as opportunities for unstructured activities. Youth centers are not schools, but supervision, while allowing independence, is vital for the safety of participants. Youth centers provide support to schools, law enforcement, neighborhoods, businesses, government, churches, and community organizations.
Financing of a Youth Center Explained: A youth center is not a business, but rather a community service and is not to be funded by the participants. The overwhelming majority of programs should be free services provided to participants paid for with grants and donations. While minimal fees may be requested of participants for the costs of a specific activity, the operational costs of providing a safe, secure, appropriate center for youth is the responsibility of the community that is served by the facility.
-Basic Facility Requirements- This list seems impossible - and it probably is. Our goal is to find a facility that will allow us to fully operate; our priority is to find a building to lease asap that meets the above requirements. The previous building did not meet those needs, and left us unable to operate to our maximum potential.
The following are basic elements we must have in order to take on a lease to a new facility. These elements would not necessarily be required of a property that is donated to Youth Activities, Inc. because, with donations, we could make necessary upgrades to a building we own.
The ideal situation would be to build a new facility. With major sponsors the ideal could be accomplished. Imagine a new youth center facility being named for your business or relative.
Our youth deserve a youth center like kids all across our country have access to. When the community cried out for a youth center, our group stood up and said we would take on the work. We need the support of the community to make this project what our youth deserve. Please help us with this project by volunteering, donating, or through our sponsorship program.
